Traditional Medicine

ACT supports the processes of knowledge exchange and experiences of traditional medicine at the national and international level, utilizing different mass media and educational documents. 

  • The Koreguaje and Inga indigenous communities of the Caquetá have participated in “health brigades”, teams of healers that travel to underserved communities.
  • Establishment of medicinal plant gardens in the reserves of the indigenous partners. Indirect support has been provided to taitas and apprentices of the Koreguaje community and to 40 women healers. 
  • The headquarters of ASOMI, the women’s union, the Association of named Mamakunapa Iuiaii Alpa, has been equipped with everything needed to become an ecotourism installation for the use of the indigenous communities and for the population in general.
  • Improvement of women healers dwellings.  
  • Support to the annual meeting of the UMIYAC  ( Unión de Médicos Indígenas Yageceros de la Amazonía Colombiana) formed by the traditional healers of the Siona, Inga, Kofán, Koreguaje and Kametzá communities and to the annual women gathering.
  • Support has been provided to cultural conservation activities with the women elders of the Kofán community.
