The territory
- In Colombia, rainforest lands comprise 35% (24.699.414 ha) of the country, distributed in the departments of Amazonas, Caquetá, GuainÃa, Guaviare, Putumayo and Vaupés as well as and portions of the departments of Cauca, Meta, Nariño and Vichada.
- Nearly 80% of the Colombian Amazon is considered the ancestral lands of indigenous peoples, which motivated the government to designate 52% of the Amazon region as indigenous reserves (162 indigenous reserves).
- Protected areas such as national parks make up only 15% of the Colombian Amazon region. In most cases, these areas overlap with indigenous reserves (1,706,105 hectares).
- 81% of the Amazon territory is relatively undisturbed.
