Working in partnership

The strengthening of the indigenous and peasant communities has been achieved by preserving their territories, their culture, and their social systems. At the same time, this action permits them to understand and to take action to protect their rights and their cultural and their biological property. The community systems then can utilize their cultural and traditional knowledge to perpetuate their identity, which is crucial for their future generations. 

ACT Colombia supports the processes undertaken by the Unión de Médicos Indígenas Yageceros de la Amazonía Colombiana (UMIYAC) and the Asociación de Mujeres Indígenas La Chagra de la Vida (ASOMI), two organizations formed to strengthen indigenous traditional medicine.
